The Stevens County, Minnesota Historical Society Museum is housed in a Carnegie Library originally built in 1915. When the Society needed to upgrade the facility, it turned to SEH to develop a comprehensive plan that would result in additional space and improved accessibility while preserving the building’s historical value and distinctive architecture.
The project resulted in a $1.8 million expansion that was recognized by the AASLH as demonstrating “excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state and local history.” The Stevens County Historical Society is only the fifth Minnesota historical society to receive the Award of Merit since the award was established in 1945.
