Briefing Number 4, March 2005

Money available for Fire Stations and EMS Organizations
Apply before April 8, 2005

Money available for fire stations and EMS organizations

Fire Departments and non-affiliated Emergency Medical Service organizations that have a National Incident Management System Plan and apply by April 8, 2005, have the opportunity to receive federal funds to improve operations and safety, or to acquire vehicles and equipment. The funds, offered through Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA), are part of the federal Assistance To Firefighters Grant Program.

Even though application preparation time is limited, it’s not too late. Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH®) has the in-house expertise to help you prepare and complete the application to ensure you have the opportunity to compete for funds.

Organizations receiving funds must contribute matching dollars. Fire departments serving populations of more than 50,000 must provide non-federal funds of up to 30 percent of the total project cost. Populations of 50,000 or less will match 10 percent of the total project cost, and populations of 20,000 or less will match 5 percent.

Last year, SEH helped several Midwest communities complete their federal funding applications, and achieved a 75 percent success rate.

Take advantage of these funds. We’ll meet with you to gather information to complete the application such as department history, demographics, response data and more. SEH’s in-house experts will help conduct a needs assessment to better position you for a winning grant. Then, we will initiate the grant application, provide information and instructions for your Fire Chief to review and approve the application and submit the final application.
