Dec. 2, 2005 Contact: Daneeka Marshall-Oquendo Architectural, Engineering Firm Employee Receives ITE Lifetime Achievement Award (Boulder, Colo.)— Today, the Colorado/Wyoming section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) presented Ron Hensen, PhD, PE, of Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH®) with a Lifetime Achievement Award. ITE, comprised of traffic engineers, transportation planners and other professionals, serves as one of the largest and fastest-growing multimodal professional transportation organizations in the world. ITE honors Hensen for his outstanding achievement in the transportation industry, and his devotion to transportation academia and ITE. Hensen, a 45-year traffic engineering veteran, actively serves in the Colorado/Wyoming section of ITE, fostering the growth and development of the traffic engineering profession in Colorado and throughout the United States’ Western Region. “Ron has been an SEH team member for nearly 27 years, but he has been contributing to the engineering industry long before his tenure at SEH,” SEH President/CEO Dave Pillatzke said. “Whether it be in an academic or private-sector setting, Ron has continually supported the advancement of transportation engineering, and remains faithfully involved in the efforts to meet society’s needs for a safe and more efficient transportation infrastructure. His many years of experience make him a great leader, advisor and mentor.” As a Senior Principal Engineer for SEH, a multidisciplined professional consulting services firm with more than 750 professionals, Hensen provides technical expertise to municipal clients and serves as the principal-in-charge on several key traffic and transportation projects. He holds a diverse portfolio of experience in litigation, transportation planning and modeling, traffic signal systems design and evaluation, roadway geometric design, and bicycle and pedestrian systems. Hensen’s previous work experience includes 15 years as a teacher and researcher of traffic engineering at Purdue University and the University of Denver. He also served as the traffic engineer for the City of Lakewood, Colo. Hensen earned a PhD in engineering and a master’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Denver. He is a professional registered engineer in the states of Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, Wyoming, California, Arizona and Montana. Hensen serves on many professional committees and remains active in several professional organizations and associations, including ITE, Transportation Research Board, National Society of Professional Engineers, Colorado Consulting Engineers Council, American Society of Engineering Education, American Society of Civil Engineers, and more.
