The Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association (MnAPA) awarded SEH with a Merit Award for the firm’s “Tower Harbor Master Plan and Design Standards” project.
The Master Plan calls for a symbolic reconnection of downtown Tower, Minn., with Lake Vermilion, expressed in physical form, including: a new bridge over East Two River; 300 new residences; 80,000 square feet of new commercial space; a riverfront promenade and trail; and expanded lake access and dock space.
The Design Standards provide a framework for creating a coherent community identity through visual guidelines for proposed expansions, renovations, or new construction of buildings or parking.
“The Tower Harbor Master Plan and Design Standards set the stage for a community’s redevelopment by encouraging high quality development, including office, retail and life cycle housing for a range of income levels,” SEH Planning and Urban Design Director Bob Kost said. “As the City of Tower transforms its harbor area into a thriving commercial and residential center, the Master Plan and Design Standards will promote sustainable, smart-growth development.”
MnAPA recognizes projects and programs of exceptional merit, in the field of planning, at its annual conference.
