La Crosse County, Wisconsin, operates one of the only full time, permanent on-site household hazardous materials (HHM) disposal facilities at its landfill site on Highway 16 in La Crosse, Wis.
With fall yard work completed and the holidays approaching, residents are "cleaning up" for the winter, and need to dispose of materials that should not be placed in the regular household trash. Local TV station WKBT News 8 taped an informative segment with Randy Nedrelo, the County's Special Waste Coordinator, on common household materials that can be brought to the HHM facility for appropriate disposal. This service is free for county residents.
To view the segment, visit the "2-Minute Take" website and click on Hazardous Household Materials Program.
The County also operates a reuse room, where local residents can take partially used household products brought in by others for their own use - again, for free.
Visit the County's website for more info on the facility and its services.
