The American Planning Association (APA) named, Central Park Plaza in Valparaiso, Indiana, to their 2016 Great Places in America list, calling it a “vibrant community gathering space, adding vitality to Valparaiso’s downtown.”
With plenty of parking areas in its downtown area, the City of Valparaiso lacked a central gathering place. They were able to transform an underused parking lot and drive-through bank facility into a new central park with strolling gardens, open lawns, an interactive water feature, ice rink and performance pavilion.
