PORTER, IN | A ceremony was held in July to break ground for the Dunes Kankakee Trail and the "Gateway to the Indiana Dunes" Project.  The trail is a key feature in the project, which is funded by the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority.

Valparaiso Getting Plans Ready for Downtown Amphitheater
VALPARAISO, IN | The city hopes to have construction drawings ready in a couple of weeks so it can seek bids for the planned amphitheater in Valparaiso's Central Park Plaza. Parks Director John Seibert got approval Thursday from the city's Board of Public Works and Safety for an additional $52,500 for SEH to complete the plans. The Board also authorized him to proceed with the bidding. Construction is expected to begin in September as soon after the Popcorn Festival as possible.

Marquette Park's Future Looks Bright in Gary
GARY, IN | The overhaul will be funded by the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority, which doesn't want the park to fall into disrepair when the work is done. To keep that from happening, City Hall might soon hand Marquette's management over to an unnamed not-for-profit conservancy.
