SEH employee-owners can recognize colleagues through our year-round Act of Excellence program. The Act of Excellence nomination categories include Accomplishment, Character and Innovation. Each quarter, an employee-led committee from this employee-led program selects winners from these three categories with winners receiving a monetary reward.
Congratulations to our spring 2021 Act of Excellence winners, Michael Dupont, Bill “Frowny” Frownfelter and Zé Cerqueira! Below, we spotlight each employee, including the category of their nomination and why they were honored (or why they were nominated). The written sentiments accompanying the nominations came directly from the colleague who nominated each individual.
Senior Structural Engineer
St. Paul, Minnesota
The Act: As the lead engineer and engineer of record for a highly complex bridge design and interchange project, Mike’s accomplishments are worth noting. Working under several contracts and managing challenges along the way, he led the bridge team to produce three preliminary plans and submit final designs for the project. Because of the unusual bridge design, Mike discussed many options and design ideas with the client translating the discussions and their desires into the bridge design and plans. Throughout all this, Mike remained focused on the project goals, worked diligently with younger staff, and completed the design plans on time and within budget. The client was pleased with the work, sending congratulating emails with the final submittal for a job well done.
Bill “Frowny” Frownfelter
Senior Civil Engineer
The Act: Frowny has been the on-call county engineer for Ouray County for over 10 years. When they lost their road maintenance superintendent and had difficulty finding a replacement, they asked Frowny to step in on an interim basis. A testament to his dedication is the fact that he leaves Durango at 4:00 a.m. and drives 2 1/2 hours one way to conduct safety meetings and give direction to project work crews before they head out for the day. He also provides guidance and recommendations to the county manager and commissioners. Rain, snowstorm or shine, Frowny makes the trip weekly.
Senior Administrative Assistant
The Act: Zé created animated clips to help educate colleagues in the SEH Durango office on how to use new functions offered in Microsoft Outlook. Realizing the benefit, he produced similar animations for additional functions, such as instructions on how to create macros that will send a message only to meeting invitees who haven’t yet responded, declined or accepted. The animations are user-friendly and save time and frustration for our teams.
