Itasca County Public Infrastructure

Taconite and Nashwauk, MN

The Itasca County Board of Commissioners are investigating the development of infrastructure elements to support two major projects currently proposed for development in Itasca County: Minnesota Steel's planned taconite mine, pellet plant, direct reduction iron (DRI) facility, and steel mill; and Excelsior Energy's planned Mesaba Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant.

The infrastructure elements would include development of roadways, railroad, natural gas pipeline, potable water, and sanitary sewer to support the planned projects.
