Rush City Downtown Framework Plan
Rush City, Minnesota

Draft Downtown Vision Statement

“Downtown Rush City should be a vibrant, welcoming place where people of all generations can live, work, learn and play within an accessible, attractive, pedestrian-friendly environment. It should be a place where:

  • Residents can meet their daily needs on foot and bicycle, not just by automobile
  • Property and business investment is encouraged and supported
  • Businesses provide a complimentary offering of goods and services
  • Numerous community events and celebrations are supported and staged throughout the year”

Rush City's central business district is home to several, thriving small businesses and serves as the heart of the community. As with many Minnesota small towns, the primary function of the downtown has shifted over the years from being the center of retail trade to more of a service and specialty retail location. The City, County and State are working towards the turn back and reconstruction of State Route 361 - 4th Street, which serves as the City's "Main Street". This presents a timely opportunity for bringing interested business and property owners together to develop a framework for downtown enhancement and reinvestment. The focus of this visoning and planning effort will be to craft a consensus vision for strengthening the downtown and establish a set of planning and design principles to guide the development of prioritized projects within the downtown area.

A downtown planning committee comprised of interested downtown property and business owners, City EDA and Council members and City staff will convene several times over the next three to four months to focus on the future of the downtown area.
