Sweeney Lake Total Maximum Daily Load Study

PROJECT UPDATE

MAY 9, 2007

We are behind our desired schedule for run-off monitoring due to the lack of equipment from MPCA. At this point, the delay does not appear to be a critical issue in the overall data collection effort. Getting the equipment installed and operational early next week is our top priority.

Al has worked directly with the Three Rivers staff to get access to the lake with their boat. You may recall we had planned on using David Hanson's boat, but due to a number of factors, the approach they are taking is to use their own boat and launch at the gated access. A huge thanks to Al for coordinating this effort.

Work Completed in Late April/Early May

1. Coordination with MnDOT to get monitoring data for P8 modeling efforts
2. Project Webpage created and active
3. First round of in-lake sampling conducted by Three Rivers
4. Ongoing work with Tim/MPCA on getting monitoring/sampling equipment secured - the equipment needed was not available or ready
5. P8 modeling efforts started

Work in Progress

1. Barr has the ball rolling to get non-MPCA equipment secured and installed the week of May 14th
2. (this will mean some form of budget modification, due to MPCA not having the needed equipment. Len is in contact with Tim)
3. Continue to work on P8 model
4. Inflow/outflow monitoring system setup - early the week of May 14th
5. Review of, and coordination with MPCA on, Quality Assurance Plan for monitoring/sampling efforts

Work in the Next 1-4 Weeks

1. Continue in-lake data collection - every two weeks
2. Install monitoring equipment and commence run-off monitoring program
3. Bernie will be contacting David on May 14th to set a date/time to review his data
4. Begin lake response model setup - BATHTUB model
5. Sediment core sampling to be conducted in mid May
6. Project webpage updates as information is available
