Sweeney Lake Total Maximum Daily Load Study PROJECT UPDATE August 23, 2007 Similar to last month's update, we're pretty much just rolling along with ongoing data collection and analysis as we move through the summer months and into fall. We are continuing to see what we expected in the lake. Regarding inflow to the lake, is too early to tell right now if the lack of rainfall events will be an issue for the overall modeling efforts or how this might impact the need for a second year of data. Bernie continues to be in close contact with Dave Hanson with how the lake looks and to assess the data Dave is collecting on temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO). Bernie and I met with Dave, Bill Wilson and Dick Moon at Dave's home on August 21st to walk through some of the data and how things are looking at this point. Overall it was a good meeting, with Bernie presenting and providing a preliminary interpretation of the data we have at this point. I plan to scan these files today and place them on the project webpage under both Public Information and Project Updates. View the meeting notes. Michael - a shorter form of this data summary may also be a good fit for a Commission update (let me know if the Sept. 20th meeting would work - I'll keep it open). One other point of discussion at our meeting with Dave and others on Tuesday, was what to expect during the fall turnover. As the lake turns over and the water below the thermocline (where much of the phosphorus is currently trapped) mixes with the rest of the lake water, we shouldn't be surprised to see an algae bloom or be too concerned with it. We can talk through this more at the Commission Meeting update. Work Completed Past two weeks
