After a multi-year site selection process, Sun Bio Materials Company chose a location in southern Arkansas to construct its new $1.3 billion pulp and bio-products manufacturing facility. The company expects to hire more than 250 permanent employees, and bring hundreds of construction and related jobs to the economically challenged area, in what is likely the largest economic development project in the history of the area. Sun Bio and its prime consultant, Poyry Engineering, required specialized environmental engineering and scientific assistance to assess the preferred site, and to help obtain a myriad of permits needed to begin construction of the plant.
SEH assembled a team of water, wastewater, air quality, wetlands and transportation experts to gauge existing site conditions on the 1,200-acre property. Currently, the team is working to prepare and submit more than seven highly detailed permit applications and approval requests to local, state and federal regulators with the goal of having all necessary approvals in place for a third quarter 2017 construction start.
