Potato Processing Waste to Energy Facility
Year:
2011

SEH worked with a potato processor to complete a feasibility study and evaluate the potential to convert potato-processing waste into energy. Laboratory testing confirmed that the potato waste is highly biodegradable and contains high concentrations of COD. In the proposed digester, anaerobes convert the COD to biogas, which is expected to be approximately 65% methane. The methane is proposed to be utilized in a micro turbine to produce electrical energy and thermal energy. Reduced energy and natural gas demands, as well as reduced wastewater surcharges, will result in significant savings compared with current operating costs. Overall, the project will create a sustainable solution for the facility.
