The City of Eagan hired SEH to perform a Solar Photovoltaic(PV) Feasibility Study at selected City-owned facilities as part of their federal energy efficiency block grant.
The study will allow the City to determine whether solar photovoltaic technology can provide a viable option for alternative power generation and an acceptable pay back period. The City could then implement the progressive installation of these panels at the prioritized locations as monies became available.
Based on information gathered from audits of potential extractable solar energy at each facility, roof area measurements, building electricity power needs and existing electrical equipment, the City will be able to determine which facilities are best able to support solar PV installation.
The study will assess the feasibility of installing solar photovoltaic panels, which may include large-scale generation on City water tanks or large roofs, as well as small solar and battery storage installations for park buildings with low electrical usage.
The GIS team will play a key role in helping to collect and manage the data via a user-friendly database that the City will be able to analyze the data and prioritize their next steps into solar energy.
