SEH was awarded several related task orders for surveying, design and construction efforts to restore flood plain and wetlands in southern Wisconsin under the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWPP) and Wetland Reserve (WRP) Programs. The largest of the task orders addresses watershed and native plant community restoration for 2,400 acres of cropped agriculture lands along the flood-prone Sugar River. The project's primary goals are to maximize flood storage, re-establish native plant communities and reduce the impacts of past agricultural landform changes, which SEH is leading from conceptual planning, to preliminary and final design, through construction services. Additionally SEH, with the assistance of POB, performed legal land surveys to establish permanent floodplain easements for restoration and has performed floodplain analysis to determine the flood regime of various storm events and assess the effects of site grading. This information is being used by our biologists to establish planting zones of native upland and wetland species. This project was funded under the ARRA, for which SEH prepared and submitted all reporting documentation as required by law.
