Five additional entrance stations to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area incorporating sustainable design features including photovoltaic panels that also serve as sun shades for fee collection stations and high mass building construction to lower energy costs and increase staff comforts and a high level of security due to remote locations.
The sites are within an upland desert that on average receives less than 6 inches of annual precipitation. Sustainable landscape design features water harvesting to allow for water to be collected, stored and redistributed to localized plant material by passive and active irrigation systems. The overall landscape design enhances the visitor experience by providing them with an educational opportunity to learn about active flora and the process of water harvesting.
