SEH provided Type A, Type B and Type C services to the Wisconsin Air National Guard for design of a new 4,065-sq. ft. Security Forces Combat Arms Training and Maintenance (CATM) and Combat Arms Training Simulator (CATS) building on a site that is currently used to provide support services to the base security small arms range. The existing site is constrained, requiring vacating a service road. The secure light-gauge, steel-framed masonry building replaces two obsolete trailers that currently occupy the site. New service spaces include an administrative office and restroom facilities that previously were unavailable in the outdated trailers. Other spaces include training, gun cleaning and maintenance, and an arms storage vault. The new facility provides training space that is large enough for three combat arms training simulators and one control room to monitor the simulations, which are critical to the Air National Guard combat simulation.
The new building is designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification and will not only meet, but also surpass, the required Air National Guard expected LEED points. Sustainable features include: ground source heat pump; native drought tolerant plantings / no irrigation; 75% waste derivation and 30% reduction in energy use compared to baseline.
