The NorthMet Project is located in northeastern Minnesota near the Mesabi Iron Range south of the town of Babbitt. PolyMet has the mineral rights on the 4,162 acres that make up the NorthMet property. The NorthMet deposit is the largest undeveloped non-ferrous metal project in the US, and is a polymetallic magmatic sulfide deposit containing platinum, palladium, gold, copper, nickel, cobalt and silver. The socioeconomic impact analysis assessed the cumulative employment, economic and social impacts of PolyMet’s NorthMet Project along with the implementation of several other major industrial projects on East Range communities – both short term through construction, and long term with employment growth for the region. The results of this study will be incorporated into the required Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for PolyMet.
