Bureau of Land Management, Lakewood, Colorado
Location:
Rawlins, Wyoming
Year:
2008

Size: 31,540 sq.ft.

Replacement of existing modular buildings with a new two-story 31,540 square foot building. Project phasing and operational considerations were primary issues in association with project development because existing offices and buildings remained operational throughout construction. This was a complicated process since the project site was located between operationally active buildings. LEED Gold Certification features include erosion and sediment control pre-requisites, site selection, stormwater management design, maximized daylighting, sloped and angled louvers to minimize glare and solar gain, energy-efficient exterior walls and roof with high R-value, direct/indirect evaporative cooling, hydronic heat, air handlers, boilers, and a wind generator to offset electrical consumption.

Features

  • New office space for BLM land management operations, library and laboratory facilities
  • LEED Gold Certification
  • Sustainable/High performance features include: east-west building orientation for solar gain control; maximized daylighting and light fixtures with photosensors; louvers and light shelves to minimize glare and heat gain; white reflective roof membrane; living snow fence and silt fence; rain water collection; 20 kW wind turbine for power generation
  • Constructed between existing operationally active buildings
