The Genesee Water & Sanitation District wastewater treatment plant was originally a facultative lagoon system. As loadings continued to increase, aeration was added to the lagoon. The plant is an activated sludge facility designed to meet the stringent ammonia standards. Since start up, the ammonia nitrogen in the effluent has consistently been less than 0.1 mg/L.
