SEH’s peer-to-peer recognition provides employee-owners with the opportunity to recognize colleagues for an act of excellence in categories of Accomplishment, Character and Innovation. Each quarter, an employee-led committee reviews the nominations and selects a winner for each category, with winners receiving a monetary reward.
Congratulations to summer 2021 Act of Excellence winners Brody Bratsch, Jeff Joseph and Jessica Hedin! Below, we spotlight each employee, including their nomination category and why they were honored. To honor the sentiment, the description of the act of excellence is in the voice of the nominator.
Accomplishment
Selected Winner
Brody Bratsch
Graduate Engineer
The Act: Brody attended a city council meeting to present the final plans for a substantial street and utility improvement project. He was the lead designer on the project and, when the SEH project manager was unable to attend the meeting, Brody stepped up to present the project. He was able to respond effectively to several questions from the city council and city administrator. Ultimately, the project was approved to move forward to the bidding phase on a 5-0 vote.
Character
Selected Winner
Jeff Joseph
Field Technician
The Act: While working at a water tower rehabilitation project site, Jeff received notification that a contractor employee was seriously injured. Being a volunteer emergency medical responder (EMT) and firefighter, he realizes emergencies can happen at any time and any place. He grabbed his first aid bag, climbed into the tower and provided first aid. The immediate response to help is indicative of Jeff's everyday character, exhibiting SEH values by being a team player, providing service in any way he can.
Innovation
Selected Winner
Jessica Hedin
Senior Professional Engineer
The Act: Jessica took initiative to develop and share a tool that lays out the phases SEH graduate engineers and project engineers on our wastewater and water teams can use to build their skills. The tool identifies development categories for basic understanding, technical skills, client-based skills, training, SEH systems and structures, and industry credibility in four different phases for their learning. This is an impressive tool that will help ensure the wastewater/water teams have a head start in developing team members now and in the future. Registered Professional Engineer in MN
