Winter 2020 Act of Excellence Winners: Technical, Genuine and Exceptional

March 22, 2021

At SEH, employees have the opportunity to recognize colleagues through our year-round Act of Excellence program. The Act of Excellence nomination categories include Accomplishment, Character and Innovation. Each quarter, an employee-led committee from this employee-led program selects winners from these three categories and these winners receive a monetary reward.

Congratulations to our winter 2020 Act of Excellence winners: Riley Mondloch, Jim Groebner and Kristin Petersen! Below, we spotlight each employee, including the category they were nominated for and why. The written sentiments accompanying the nominations came directly from the colleague who nominated each individual.

Riley Mondloch

Accomplishment
Selected Winner

Riley Mondloch
Water Resources Engineer
St. Paul, Minnesota

The Act: Riley completed a technical hydraulic analysis using state-of-the-art river modeling software that involved substantial data input, calibration and modification to study flow rates and flood levels for a flood mitigation project. This critical component of the project development process was instrumental in decision making for our local, state and federal stakeholders/partners. Riley’s innovative and technical work allowed stakeholders to understand the existing and future hydraulic conditions in order to plan sustainable infrastructure improvements in this highly sensitive study area.

Jim Groebner

Character
Selected Winner

Jim Groebner
Lead Resident Project Representative (RPR)
St. Paul, Minnesota

The Act: Jim serves as an RPR for many clients, often going to the far reaches of Minnesota without complaint. It’s normal for Jim to strike up a genuine friendship with clients, mostly about airplanes, hunting or fishing. So, it comes to no surprise to learn Jim shared his love of hunting with a wounded veteran and spent deer hunting opener helping him live a hunting experience that is readily available to most.  He found a location accessible by wheelchair and constructed a platform to help target an unlucky deer, should it come within range of view. This story is a testament to Jim’s character and how he interacts with people with genuine kindness.

Kristin Petersen

Innovation
Selected Winner

Kristin Petersen
Senior Transportation Planner
St. Paul, Minnesota

The Act: Kristin demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to deliver accessible and equitable engagement through virtual platforms during the pandemic. She successfully launched the virtual engagement for a Planning and Environment Linkages Study, which spanned two counties and seven cities and included several innovative approaches to reach diverse stakeholders. Kristin took the same equitable engagement steps in person and used them virtually – elevating equity in virtual engagement.
