WTS 2019 Minnesota Member of the Year Award Presented to SEH’s Nikki Farrington

April 29, 2019

Nikki Farrington, SEH transportation engineer*, was presented with the 2019 Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Member of the Year award from the organization’s Minnesota Chapter. According to the nominator, Morgan Abbott, a Washington County project manager and WTS member, Nikki’s passion and dedication has helped grow, strengthen and evolve WTS MN — a resource and advocate for women in the transportation industry. The award recognizes a WTS member on the following criteria:

The member has made extraordinary contributions to the success of the organization.

Nikki’s contributions began when she joined WTS in 2003. But it was her first leadership role in 2012 where she served as the scholarship and recognition director that cemented her role in the organization. In 2017, she joined the WTS Central Region Council, knowing that WTS MN may host the next regional conference. This helped strengthen the relationship between the local chapter and the region. In 2018, Farrington contributed several hours organizing the WTS Central Region Conference – increasing the number of attendees and corporate sponsorship funds.

The member promotes the reputation of WTS within the transportation industry.

Nikki has introduced several professionals to the WTS community – not only through one-on-one networking inside and outside of SEH, but she helped to further the growth of the chapter.

The member works effectively to strengthen communication between local and national WTS levels or between chapters.

Her first year on the council, Nikki provided benefit to WTS MN by connecting WTS MN board with other regional boards. She also helped organized the first regional weekend retreat where WTS MN board members networked and discussed regional issues with other chapter board members.

The member does an outstanding job of revitalizing or expanding a chapter or any of its functions.

Nikki advocated for WTS MN to host the 2018 Central Region Conference. This not only exposed the chapter to the region, it exposed the chapter to local professionals who may not have known about the organization.

From day one, “WTS has provided a safe and supportive environment to work on skills that have been invaluable to my career,” says Farrington. “Leadership, organization, networking and personal relationship building — all while working with like-minded professionals that support each other.”

Nikki currently serves as the Minnesota Representative on the WTS Central Region Council.
