The City of Sandstone is preparing for the 2020 Street Reconstruction Project. The above figure shows the two Phases the Project is broken into. The project streets are in need to reconstruction to address the following issues
The majority of the work will consist of only street work, new pavement with spot curb & gutter replacement with minor storm sewer improvements. Pine Avenue will see the replacement of some sanitary sewer forcemain and gravity mains.
The process will see the contractor first reclaim the existing pavement on the project streets. Reclaiming the existing pavement involves the pulverizing of the existing bituminous pavement into the underlying gravel base. This creates a street surface similar to a gravel road which allows the streets to remain open for traffic.
After the reclaiming, the contractor will re-grade the streets, replace curb & gutter as needed and in the case of Court Avenue and Pine Avenue, replace underlying storm sewer and/or sanitary sewer. Then the “reclaimed” bituminous and gravel mixture will be used as the new gravel base on which new bituminous pavement will be placed.
The following streets are planned for improvements as part of the project:
