Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH®), along with their consultant partners and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), received a 2026 National Recognition Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for the Twin Ports Interchange project in Duluth, Minnesota.
The project was recognized through ACEC’s Engineering Excellence Awards program, which honors projects that demonstrate innovation, complexity, and community impact. The Twin Ports Interchange was previously awarded a Grand Award by ACEC of Minnesota.
This project required close coordination, creative problem solving, and trust among the entire team. Working side by side with MnDOT and our partners allowed us to deliver improvements that make travel safer and more reliable for the Duluth–Superior region. – Jim Hall, PE*, SEH Project Manager for the Roadway Final Design Contract
Located at the convergence of I 35, I 535, and U.S. 53, the Twin Ports Interchange is one of Minnesota’s most complex transportation hubs. It supports freight movement, daily commuters, and regional tourism while improving safety and mobility through the corridor.
SEH served in collaboration with Parsons, Barr, and a team of consultant partners to form a team delivering roadway, bridge, and geotechnical design for the project. The team worked closely with MnDOT and the Ames Kramer Joint Venture using a Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) delivery model.
National Recognition Awards are selected from top ranked state award winners and represent engineering achievements that demonstrate quality, innovation, and measurable benefit to the communities they serve.
