At SEH, we succeed because of employee-owners who lead by example – bringing dedication, creativity, and collaboration that make a real difference for our clients and communities.
Each quarter, the Act of Excellence (AOE) Committee reviews peer nominations and selects honorees in three categories: Accomplishment/Innovation, Character, and Teamwork. These individuals show what it means to go above and beyond and help shape the culture that makes SEH a great place to work.
Please join us in recognizing our Summer 2025 AOE award recipients: Jon Boggio, Grace Bergan, Chris Coffield, Steve Kaye, Steve Halewski, Wilbert Torres, and Tyler Waadevig. Read on to see how each employee-owner is making a lasting impact at SEH and in the communities we serve.
Accomplishment/Innovation
Jon Boggio, Engineer in Training*
Civil Engineering
The Act: While working on a reconstruction project, Jon sped up the workflow for creating tabulations from the storm and water pipe networks. With the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI), he developed a conversion spreadsheet using formulas in Excel. With nearly 300 structures and just as many pipes, this helped the team be more efficient and accomplish more in a shorter period. This was just one example of his innovation. On a project as large as this one, he routinely found ways to streamline processes, saving valuable time. Not only that, but Jon went above and beyond to meet a critical deadline. His dedication didn't go unnoticed and was one of the reasons this project was a success.
Character
Grace Bergan, Administrative Assistant
Administration
The Act: Grace stepped outside her normal duties to assist with North Dakota Department of Transportation pre-qualifications, helping ensure SEH’s continued work with the agency. She approached the task with enthusiasm and completed it in an organized, timely manner.
Since that time, Grace has taken on several additional state pre-qualifications, including a highly complex Texas Department of Transportation submission. She overcame strict requirements and limited document-sharing options by collaborating with the team and creating a OneNote system to streamline the review process. Despite a tight timeline, she showed unwavering commitment to meet the deadline – without a single complaint.
One colleague shared: “Grace has been great to work with. She’s doing an excellent job with TxDOT. She was prompt, professional, and used Notes to help us review documents efficiently since everything had to go through an online portal where she had sole access.”
Grace’s willingness to step up supports SEH’s growth in key states and reinforces our commitment to Building a Better World for All of Us®. She is outstanding to work with – always ready to help and always with a smile.
Teamwork
Top L-R: Chris Coffield, Senior Technician, Structural Engineering, Steve Halewski, Professional Engineer*, Structural Engineering, Steve Kaye, Professional Engineer* and LEED AP®, Structural Engineering
Bottom L-R: Wilbert Torres, Professional Engineer*, Structural Engineering and Tyler Waadevig, Mechanical Staff Engineer, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
The Act: When a Massachusetts dairy facility needed an equipment retrofit, this SEH team delivered structural and mechanical solutions that supported a successful installation and long-term performance.
The initial request was to ensure that two new replacement compressors could be supported on the original equipment pads. There were very limited as-built drawings, and the new equipment and ducting had a very tight fit, adding to the project's complexity.
This team of structural, mechanical, and electrical experts worked together at a site hundreds of miles from the nearest SEH office, utilizing a 3D plant scan to build a working Building Information Modeling (BIM) model with precise measurements of the existing structure. As the project evolved, the team’s scope expanded to include designing new compressor baseplates, performing finite element analysis on proposed ductwork, and laying out supplier equipment in the BIM model.
By assembling the right project team and utilizing virtual design in Revit to allow remote work, SEH was able to handle the requested analysis and the additional design work that were critical to the overall project success. The project was commissioned, and plant staff expect it to pay for itself within six months.
Both the equipment supplier and their end client view the project as a major success.
