Congratulations to SEH’s winter 2021 Act of Excellence (AOE) winners Camille Hedrington, and former employees Bob Beaver and Emily Major!
SEH established the AOE program to empower all employees to recognize their colleagues who help make SEH a great place to work. Each quarter, an employee-led committee reviews the nominations and selects a winner for each category – Accomplishment, Character and Innovation – with winners receiving a monetary reward.
Below, we spotlight each employee, including their nomination category and why we’re celebrating them. To capture the sentiment, the description of the Act of Excellence is in the voice of the nominator.
Accomplishment
Selected Winner
Camille Hedrington
Senior Administrative Assistant
The Act: For SEH to pursue Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) projects, we needed someone dependable to manage the WisDOT Masterworks Notice of Interest solicitation process. Camille immediately dove into the process, researching past submittals and identifying opportunities to improve the process. The first submittal in April 2021 included eight project proposals, and she was able to submit them all within the required timeframe. Camille is committed to this process month after month, and her knowledge of the system is critical to our success with WisDOT. We are grateful for her help, and she has been a great addition to our team.
Character
Selected Winner
Bob Beaver (former employee)
Principal and Senior Professional Engineer (MN)
The Act: Bob shows wonderful character to all his team members, clients and office staff. He goes out of his way to make each person feel genuinely valued and appreciated. Bob tends to put others before himself, even when feeling stressed. A few examples include listening to people tell him their personal stories, calling people to check-in, finding a small gift that he knows someone will like, attending funerals for his staff's family members, and making people laugh. Bob is committed to making people feel extraordinary and their work environment. In 2021, Bob led the effort when SEH moved the Grand Rapids, Minnesota, office to a new space. He spent many personal hours figuring out how best to lay out the space, checking in on the renovation, and even using his woodworking skills to give the office a better appearance.
Innovation
Selected Winner
Emily Major (former employee)
Professional Engineer (MN)
The Act: Emily thinks outside the box and looks for efficient ways to accomplish things. While working on a project, she created template spreadsheets for earthwork and pipe network quantities in Excel. Due to an Autodesk Civil 3D process change for pipe networks, she effectively made templates to export all pipe network information, which produced a complete pipe network quantities breakdown for a project. The easy-to-follow instructions inform you where you need to add data and from what sources combining information, instructions and formulas. The spreadsheets can also help reduce errors, streamline best practices, and improve quantities efficiency.
